VDPC and AXENT sign a strategic agreement to boost digital connectivity in the Mediterranean

Valencia Digital Port Connect (VDPC) and Axent Infraestructuras de Telecomunicaciones (AXENT) have signed a framework collaboration agreement for the joint development of telecommunications infrastructure, with the aim of strengthening national and international connectivity through fiber optic networks.

VDPC is a Spanish digital infrastructure company leading the development of Project Barracuda, a strategic initiative to establish a new international connectivity hub in the Mediterranean. The project involves the construction in Sagunto (Valencia) of an open submarine cable landing station (Open CLS) sized to land at least four submarine cables, combined with a high-availability, 10 MW multipurpose data center. This facility will house the landing point for Barracuda, a new submarine cable that will directly connect Valencia with Genoa, providing a high-capacity, low-latency interconnection route between the Iberian Peninsula and Europe, key for critical digital services and delay-sensitive applications.

Axent is a neutral wholesale operator specializing in backbone connectivity, backhaul, and access to major traffic nodes. With a fully underground network of more than 5,700 km, it provides connectivity services to the main hyperscalers, international carriers, and national operators in the Iberian Peninsula. Since its creation, Axent has connected the main submarine cable landing stations (Sopelana, Santander, and Barcelona) and data centers in Spain. It has also deployed new terrestrial fiber routes to international manholes with France and Portugal. Over the last year, the company has focused on international expansion, establishing POPs in Marseille, Milan, and Genoa, with the prospect of establishing new locations in Lisbon and Paris.

Through the agreement, both companies will implement interconnections between their networks and infrastructures to develop joint projects, offering integrated solutions that leverage both Axent’s national reach and VDPC’s international capabilities.

With this alliance, VDPC and AXENT reinforce their commitment to developing neutral, resilient, and efficient infrastructures that drive digital transformation and improve global connectivity from Spain.
